Hymn to St Michael

(Tune “Daily, daily sing to Mary”)

There’s a shrine in Monte Sant’Angelo,
shining bright for all to see,
Glorious statue of St Michael
there awaiting you and me.
In his face there’s peace and courage,
shield held high with eyes that plead,
“Stand with me, yes stand with me,
I’ll give you strength to follow me”.

Chorus (x2)
Great St Michael! Great St Michael
your dear Knight I wish to be.
Let me give oh great St Michael,
let me give my heart to thee.

In his arms you’ll find his power,
in his arms you’ll find his peace.
Our Lord’s guardian our St Michael,
his protection is our bliss.
For whoever asks assistance,
shall be heard without a miss.
Call on him my dearest pilgrims,
call on him, oh! call on him.

Chorus (x2)

When this world is in a turmoil,
how can we forget our fear?
Turn our thoughts to great St Michael,
who awaits so very near.
Let us think of Monte Sant’Angelo,
listen to St Michael’s plea;
“Call on me my dearest pilgrims,
call on me, oh call on me”.

Chorus (x2)

We should think of being a knight
of great St Michael here today.
We have now been invited,
to join forces and to pray.
Our Almighty will be joyous,
if we save so many souls.
Oh! St Michael be beside me,
give me strength to follow thee.

Chorus (x2)

St Michael's Canon

Oh St Michael the Archangel,
You are praising Our God.
Help us conquer evil spirits,
Always stand by Christ Our Lord.
H elp us conquer evil spirits,
Always stand by Christ Our Lord.

Mi-cha-el!

With Angels let us join in song,
May it rise like a mighty gong,
May it start swinging like a bell.
With all your heart call: Mi-cha-el!

Mi-cha-el, may it sound even stronger,
Mi-cha-el, may it last even longer,
Mi-cha-el, may it reach even higher, Mi-cha-el!

From the earth, may it reach the sky,
This song that Angels sing on high.
Like bread with others let us share,
with all your heart call: Mi-cha-el!

Mi-cha-el, may it sound even stronger,
Mi-cha-el may it last even longer,
Mi-cha-el , may it reach even higher, Mi-cha-el!

The God himself who dwells above,
Is worthy of your gift of love.
All human doubts he can dispel,
with all your heart call: Mi-cha-el!

Angels Retreat - version 1
(Tune: All people that on earth do dwell)

They come, God's messengers of love,
They come from realms of peace above,
From homes of never-fading light,
From blissful mansions ever bright.

They come to watch around us here,
To soothe our sorrow, calm our fear:
Ye heavenly guides, speed not away,
God willeth you with us to stay.

But chiefly at its journey's end
'Tis yours the spirit to befriend,
And whisper to the willing heart,
'O Christian soul, in peace depart.'

To us the zeal of angels give,
With love to serve thee while we live;
To us an Angel-guard supply,
When on the bed of death we lie.

Angels Retreat - version 2
(Tune: Soul of my Saviour)

Angel's of God you see The Father's face,
Sharing his splendour, clothed in fire and flame,
Worshipping him, the terrible and great,
Singing for ever: Holy is his name !

Angels, you sang when Christ came down to earth,
Gave him your comfort in the hour of dread,
Solaced his spirit, anguished and alone,
Shouted his triumph, risen from the dead.

Angels, archangels, when he comes again,
Compassed in glory, fearful in his might,
Open for him the king's eternal gates:
Then will he lead his faithful into light.

When to the father, Son and Spirit blest,
Angels and men united worship bring,
From all creation, from the world unseen,
Up to the Godhead perfect praise will spring.

Ye Holy Angels Bright
(Tune: DARWALL – same as hymn Rejoice the Lord is King)

Ye holy angels bright,
Who wait at God's right hand,
Or through the realms of light
Fly at your Lord's command,
Assist our song, or else the theme
Too high doth seem for mortal tongue.

Ye blessed souls at rest,
Who ran this earthly race
And now, from sin released,
Behold your Saviour's face,
God's praises sound, as in His light
With sweet delight ye do abound.

Ye saints, who toil below,
Adore your heavenly King,
And onward as ye go
Some joyful anthem sing;
Take what He gives, and praise Him still,
Through good or ill, who ever lives.

My soul, bear thou thy part,
Triumph in God above,
And with a well-tuned heart
Sing thou the songs of love;
Let all thy days till life shall end,
Whate'er He send, be filled with praise.

Angel's Song
(Tune: Forth in Thy Name O Lord I Go)

They come, God’s messengers of love,
They come from realms of peace above,
From homes of never fading light,
From blissful mansions ever bright.

They come to watch around us here,
To soothe our sorrow, calm our fear:
Ye heavenly guides, speed not away,
God willeth you with us to stay.

But chiefly at its journey’s end
‘Tis yours the spirit to befriend,
And whisper to the faithful heart,
O Christian soul, in peace depart.

Blest Jesu, thou whose groans and tears
Have sanctified frail nature’s fears,
To earth in bitter sorrow weigh’d
Thou didst not scorn thine angel’s aid.

An angel guard to us supply,
When on the bed of death we lie;
And by thine own almighty power
I shield us in the last dread hour.

To God the Father, God the Son,
And God the Spirit, Three in One,
From all above and all below
Let joyful praise unceasing flow.

Winchester New (St Michael And All Angels)
(Tune: All People That on Earth Do Dwell)

The splendour of the Father’s rays,
Thee, our heart’s life, we gladly praise,
Jesus, our hymns to thee we bring,
And midst thy prostrate angels sing.

Ten thousand warriors armed on high,
Embattled angels fill the sky;
Michael the conquering chief appears,
On high the glorious cross he rears.

He with salvation’s sign unfurled,
The dragon down the abyss has hurled,
The rebels with their chief are driven,
Scathed by the lightning flash, from heaven.

Then faithful at the chieftain’s side,
Pursue the hateful king of pride,
Till from the Lamb a heavenly crown
Rewards us with unquenched renown.

To God the Father glory give,
To God the Son through whom we live,
The like, O Holy Ghost, to thee,
Which ever was, shall ever be.
